Theodore is a lonely and mentally fragile man in the final stages of his divorce. When he's not working as a letter writer in the near future, his down time is spent playing video games and occasionally hanging out with friends. He decides to purchase the new OS1, which is advertised as the world's first artificially intelligent operating system. Theodore quickly finds himself drawn in with Samantha, the voice behind his OS1. As they start spending time together they grow closer and closer and eventually find themselves falling in love.
Does technology alter our human relationships? Are operating systems who know us better than we know ourselves a blessing our a curse? What if we lose the competence of inward reflection and critical thinking because we are under the spell of a deep learning system which anticipates our grace and grind? How would such human-machine relationships our ability to bond with other human beings?
Dive with us into the not so distant future of love, companionship and belonging and discuss the neuro-psychology of a feeling which we all seek but rarely and truly encounter.
